  • Doctorandus in Physics, University of Utrecht,
    The Netherlands, 1959
Position:
  • Professor of Physics. UCLA, since 1974

Diversity:

  • Guest Physicist appointments at Argonne, BNL, CERN, LBL, LANL, TRIUMF, Saclay
  • Co-founder and co-editor of the Pion-Nucleon Newsletter.
  • Co-founder of MENU (International Conference on Meson and Nucleon Physics)
  • Founder and Chair of the New Crystal Ball Collaboration (12 Institutions) at BNL, 1995-2002
Co-Founder in 2002 and Co-PI of the Crystal Ball at MAMI Collaboration (16 Institutions), 2002-Present
Research Activities:
Most of my current experimental research is carried out with the Crystal Ball Multiphoton Spectrometer.   This versatile detector is now located at the University of Mainz in the 1.5 GeV tagged photon beam.  We are measuring the properties of excited states of the proton with polarized photon beams incident on polarized H and D targets.

We are also engaged in research at the Jefferson Lab.  We have started a new program on flavor symmetry that is geared to the cascade hyperon states.

Research Interest :
  • The basic symmetries of C, CP, T, isospin, G-Parity, chirality, and flavor
  • Non-perturbative QCD, quark confinement, origin of mass
  • Production, interactions and decays of the η and η' mesons
  • Photoproduction of light mesons
  • Ξ physics
